A simple story of love and zombies, told with fantastic skill and great characters.
We follow the story of Shaun, a man plodding through his existence, with his useless best mate Ed. As he slowly begins to realise that his plodding and his general uselessness is costing him his girl friend and his self respect. The dead begin to rise, not that he realises this quickly either.
This now provides our backdrop for our hero to become what needs to become in order to rescue his life, his mum and his girlfriend, well kind of!
The dialogue in this movie really makes it so good, it is written by the same team who brought you the sit com Spaced, which if you haven't seen you also must.
A fantastic British film with a British feel, and no delusions. It also carriers some subtle social commentary in the vein of a Romero movie. Stop reading this and go watch it already!
A zom rom com in every sense of the err words. It is great fun with great dialogue. Despite its comical elements, at its non beating heart is a true zombie movie, with all the elements you would want gore, horror, tension, soul and apocalyptic vision. Some will tell you that 28 days later is the best zombie movie to come out of the UK in the past 10 years, they are wrong this is. A real must see.
The joy of this story is that our main character really doesn't understand more then the very basics of surviving a zombie out break, and remains almost completely oblivious of the fact that there are zombies outside for a good third of the film. Despite that he does come up with a plan and follows it through, although it may be a little misguided and is ruined at most points by his idiot best mate, and his girlfriends friend, an important lesson in choosing your team. He also can't shoot to save his life.
